Member of the Month: Higher Promos

Higher Promos is a third-generation, woman-owned and family operated promotional products distributor. Since 1959, our parent company (founded in Oregon) has offered corporate businesses the ability to put their logo on anything. When cannabis became legal in Oregon in 2015, we noticed a lack of professional branded merchandise distributors serving the industry, so we founded the Higher Promos division. We love to serve cannabis dispensaries, growers, processors, and ancillary businesses looking to promote their brands with unique & useful swag.

Having smoked and grown medically for many years, cannabis has long been part of the family’s personal life, thus combining our knowledge and affection for Cannabis with our years of experience and expertise in the promotional products world. While our roots are in Portland, Oregon – a hub of the longstanding West Coast cannabis scene – Higher Promos actively seeks out clients in all new and emerging state-legal industries to help legitimize and grow our fellow small cannabis businesses.

When the George Floyd situation erupted in 2020, Nancy (company Owner and President) looked for a way to help her black and brown friends.  She had already been an active participant at OAME (Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs) for about 20 years.  “The entire company participated in DEI education sessions to help us become aware of unconscious bias or any unintended actions that may alienate others.”  In addition, Nancy served on a 2021 committee to help formulate the Oregon Cannabis Equity Act (HB3112) to help rebuild wealth for black and brown communities, including OLCC license equity and cannabis expungement.

Higher Promos offers a non-profit or social-impact discount to organizations such as Last Prisoner Project and 40 Tons.  “When we learned about MCBA, we were all in.  We have told several of our clients about the Association, and hope they join.”

Higher Promos would love to hire more people of color for our Portland headquarters; however, Oregon’s population has fewer BIPOC individuals than most other states.  We are actively hiring in 2023 and still looking to further diversify the Higher Promos team!
